The forklift industry in China started in the late 1950s, it mainly imitated Soviet forklifts at that time. From the late 1970s to the 1980s, our country’s forklift industry carried out two design integrations. In recent years, the domestic forklift industry has been very popular. The number of forklift trucks in the domestic market has increased rapidly, and the export industry has skyrocketed. The export flow of Chinese forklifts is mainly to the markets of Russia, France, Germany and other powerful machinery manufacturing countries. The quality of my country’s forklift production industry has been recognized by the world, and the price advantage is also a major feature of my country’s forklifts.

The earliest forklifts used in China originated in 1947 after World War II. At that time, the National Government purchased several forklifts that were retired by the U.S. Army and were originally used to carry military supplies.
After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, all industries were waiting to be boomed, and a socialist construction climax was set off. At that time, several major domestic ports purchased only a small amount of old-fashioned forklifts from the former Soviet Union, and various departments of the national economy urgently needed to improve the level of mechanization of loading and unloading and change the situation of loading and unloading operations that primitive and backward people carried on their shoulders.
Therefore, the decision makers of the State Council’s industrial department handed over the task of developing and producing China’s self-made forklifts to Dalian Machinery No. 1 Factory, which were built in 1946 and had technical foundation and manufacturing capacity.They were responsible for the repair of ordnance during the War of Liberation. They made many achievements during the recovery period of the national economy at the beginning of the Liberation.
After arduous and unremitting efforts, on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival in 1958, China’s first internal combustion forklift named W-5 “Satellite” was born in Dalian Forklift Factory.
Subsequently, on October 1, 1959, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, China’s first 5-ton internal combustion forklift produced in Dalian, as a new product of China’s machinery industry, accompanied the National Day parade through Tiananmen Square to present the 10th anniversary of the National Day to the party and as the country reported victory.
The birth of China’s first internal-combustion forklift has made a lot of strokes on the white paper of China’s forklift manufacturing history. Dalian has become the cradle of China’s forklifts and thus created the history of China’s forklift manufacturing.
