Lead-acid Battery Malfunction and Its Cause(五)

五. Active substance shedding

During the charging and discharging process of the lead-acid battery, the active material of the electrode plate gradually falls off due to damage. This phenomenon mainly occurs when the cycle charge and discharge will finish. The main feature is that there are precipitates in the electrolyte, and the battery capacity decreases. The shedding of the active material is a normal phenomenon if the service life of the battery is approaching the end, but in the following cases, the active material of the electrode plate will also fall off.

(1)Due to the improper proportion of additives in the negative plate, the active material expands and falls off during the charging and discharging process.

(2)Large charge and discharge current or excessive charge and discharge, long-term overdischarge.

(3)The temperature and density of the electrolyte are too high during charging.

(4)A short circuit occurs in the external circuit during discharge.

(5)The electrolyte is not pure.

(6)Plate sulfation or grid corrosion cracking.

.Reduced capacity

There are several reasons why lead-acid batteries fail to reach the rated capacity during discharge or decrease in capacity during charging and discharging:

(1)The pole group is locally short-circuited.

(2)There is false welding in the welding part of the battery in series. Therefore, the initial capacity is acceptable. With the charging and discharging process, the oxide film produced on the false welding part can conduct electricity, but the effect is not good.

(3)The grid corrodes, the plate is broken, and the active material falls off.

(4)Plate Sulfation.

(5)The current is too large when the capacity is discharged, the density of the electrolyte is too low or the height of the electrolyte liquid is not enough.

(6)Charge and discharge equipment, measuring instruments out of tolerance or failure.

(7)During discharge, the temperature of the electrolyte is too low.

七.Abnormal voltage

The abnormal voltage characteristics of lead-acid batteries during charging and discharging are as follows:

(1)Low open circuit voltage or low voltage during charging and discharging.

(2)When discharging, the voltage drops rapidly to the termination voltage and recovers to a higher voltage soon after the discharge is stopped.

(3)When charging, the voltage rises very quickly, and when charging is stopped, the voltage drops too low and too fast.

(4)The voltage appears negative during discharge.

(5)When charging, the voltage rises and the voltage is low.
